Normal Jake Petersen, 89, passed away August 28, 2010 at Prime Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Normal was born February 11, 1921in Irwin, Iowa, to Jacob and Minnie (Bosche) Petersen. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Normal retired from Frye Copy Systems after 20 years of service. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, working in his yard, visiting with his neighbors and sharing fresh tomatoes from his garden.
Normal is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Gary) Van Cleave; sons, Jack (Shirley) Petersen and Norm (Mary) Petersen; step-daughter, Barbara (Merlyn) Pahl; and eleven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Alice Larsen, Martha Christensen and Minnie Penry; and brothers, Ernest and Marvin Petersen; and his wife, Darlene.
A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 2, 2010, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.

Jack, Nancy, Norm.Jr.
You have my sincere sympathy.
I loved your dad like you will not know. He spent so much time whenI was
growing up on the farm with us. I cherish all the memories:
The auctioneer song, the laughter, and most recently us "survivors" as
we called ourselves at the Bosche reunion. And lastly our conversation
on his birthday in February.
I remember the afternoon when my dad knew he was going to die that he
asked my mother to call Norm and tell him goodbye for him, a call dad
couldn't make, so mom did. They were only 18 months apart, fought like
kids, but loved each other so much. Norm rocked the bed like the boat he
was on in the Navy and dad got so mad, because he couldn't sleep. I
smile just thinking of all the things we did together.
My God be with all of you. God Bless you for the decision of the Veteran
Cemetary, a great tribute to a soldier and my loving uncle!
