Jackson Rodgers J.R. "Red" Portwood

Jack “Red” Portwood, 80, died August 27, 2010 at Des Moines Veteran’s Hospital. Funeral services will be 1 PM Tuesday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, with burial following at Sunset Cemetery. A visitation will be from 6-8 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Jack lived on the south side of Des Moines for nearly 60 years and served in the Navy from 1951 to 1954. He was a member of Allied Trades Union 246 and retired as a painter.

He is survived by his wife, Ellenora; daughters, Kathleen Andrews (Dennis) of Urbandale, Cindy Mauro (Mike Parker) of Norwalk; 8 grandchildren, Allen Mauro (Shay), Bobby Mauro (Heather), Adam Mauro, Cynthia Mauro, Heidi Mauro, Vanessa Andrews, Alyssa Youngblood (Kenney) and Karissa Andrews; 4 great grandchildren, Townes, Slater, Breelie and Rocco.
