Gary D. Hanke, 63, died Thursday, August 26, 2010 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was born September 4, 1946 to Beulah and Raymond Hanke in Stuart. Gary served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a machinist for many years at John Deere and then as an auto mechanic for Ramsey Pontiac for over twenty years.

Gary attended Grace Church and drove their bus for several years. He was an avid Harley Davidson motorcyclist and enjoyed his old, fast cars.

Gary is survived by his children, Jeff (Michele) Hanke, Jason (Michele Briggs) Hanke, and Jenny (Chris) Heydon; grandchildren, Jeff Jr., Chantell, Jesse, Grace, and Cael on the way; mother, Beulah (Noble) Ezell; brother, David Hanke; sister, Donna Reese; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Hanke; and nephew, Kevin Reese.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, August 30, 2010 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona, with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. Friends may visit with family from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
