Walter Hiatt

Walter L. Hiatt Jr., 82, of Des Moines died on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at the Fleur Heights Care Center from complications of diabetes. Funeral services will be at 7 P.M. Thursday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home. Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5-8 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Walter was born on November 23, 1924 in Des Moines and was a retired Teamster and an over the road truck driver for 33 years. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan and enjoyed NASCAR, bowling and going to casinos.
He is survived by his wife Beverly, his son John (Mary) Hiatt of Des Moines, his step-sons Kelly (Deb) and Robert (Bev) Venosky both of Des Moines, his stepdaughters Kathy (Terry) Hazelbaker of Lakeville, Minnesota and Becky (John) McNew of Des Moines, his sister Margie Hiatt-Green of Des Moines, his grandson Derek (Misty), his 10 step-grandchildren, his great granddaughter Andrea, his 29 step-great grandchildren, his 1 step great, great grandchild as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Thelma “Tiny” Hiatt, his parents, his 4 brothers, his sister and step-daughter.
