Service Details

Marilyn Lee Molleck, 82, of West Des Moines, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and friends on August 21, 2010.

Marilyn was born in Moravia, Iowa to Forrest and Gail Hiatt. Marilyn moved with her family to Newton, Iowa in her teenage years where she met the love of her life, William (Bill) Molleck. They were married on New Years Day in 1950.

Prior to her marriage, Marilyn went to UNI to become a dedicated teacher. She taught in the Des Moines Public Schools as an elementary teacher until she retired in 1988. She took time off from her career when she became a mother to take care of her three children.

Marilyn will be greatly missed by her children: daughter, Kristine (Bruce) Holtman of St. Petersburg, Florida; daughter, Julie (Ladia) Tabery of New Virginia, Iowa; and son, William (Jayne) Molleck of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was a wonderful grandmother to her six grandchildren, Kyle, Kory, Joe, Nick, Jaime, and Lucas, and two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Katrina. Marilyn’s two sisters, Roberta Long of Oldsmar, Florida and Joann (LaVern) Nida of Newton, were wonderful to her and they shared many fun times.

Marilyn was blessed with many long time friends who were very special to her as well as the new ones she had met since her beloved husband’s death in 1993.

Marilyn’s last five years were spent at the Lodge on Ashworth in West Des Moines, where she enjoyed socializing, playing golf and bridge, and taking part in the many activities available. She was known as having a kind word to everyone she met.

Visitation will be held at West Des Moines United Methodist Church at 720 Grand Avenue at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2010, with a memorial service following at 12:00 p.m. at the church. Everyone who knew and cared for Marilyn is invited to attend.
