Service Details
Merle Kennedy passed away August 18, 2010 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral services will be 10 am Monday, August 23rd at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be from 4 to 6 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
Merle was born July 22, 1941 to Olga and Vernon Kennedy in Brinsmade, North Dakota. He lived in Houston for many years before returning back to Des Moines. Merle was a member of the Carpenters Local #106 and the Eagles Lodge. He served in the US Army from 1959 to 1962.
Merle is survived by his son, Shane (Jennifer) Kennedy; daughter, Sara Kennedy; sisters, Linda (David) Cook, Lorna (Gary) Kennedy; brothers, Keith (Peggy), Jerry (Diana), William (Mary), Dennis (Ruth), Steve, Bruce (Christy), Douglas (Marsha), Robert, and Jeffrey Kennedy; six grandchildren and 33 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jim.
Merle’s family wishes to thank Broadlawns Medical Center and Mercy Hospice for the excellent and loving care given to Merle.
Memorial contributions may be given to Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

We are so sorry to hear of Merle's demise. Walter and I have known you all for many years and feel very close to your family. We will miss Merle, but know he is in better hands now and at peace.
