Service Details
Helen "Dutchess" Lee, 79, passed away July 27, 2010. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines. Visitation will be on Friday, July 30, 2010 from 5 to 7 pm, and the funeral service on Saturday, July 31 at 10 am.
Helen was born on July 13, 1931 in Cooper, IA to Hazel and Claude Morain. She graduated from Perry High School and attended Simpson College. On June 2, 1951 she married LaVern “Slim” Lee. Helen retired in 1993 as the librarian at Fairmeadows Elementary School in West Des Moines.
Helen loved being around people and her greatest love was her family. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to Panama City Beach, FL where they walked the beach collecting shells to make shell wreaths and watching sunsets. Helen was a member of West Des Moines United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her sons, Kevin of Pensacola, FL, Kirk (Sara) of Des Moines, Kyle of Pleasant Hill; and grandchildren, Cody, Kaitlyn, Eric and Johnathan. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, her parents and brother, Claude Morain, Jr.

So sorry to hear about your dad in May and now your mom. Helen and Slim are together again and looking down on us all.

We were both very blesed to have Helen in our lives. She had a lot of wisdom and common sense along with a good sense of humor. She taught us about the meaning of family. She will be missed very much and you are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Oh my goodness, Kyle . . . it is difficult to think that it is now time to say Good-Bye to your mother at least in her earthly part of her life. She will remain with you and those she cared about FOREVER. Now both of your parents will be with you as your Guardian Angels. What comfort you provided to her as she traveled her journey. Please know that your DMRG family cares very much about you.
I must acknowledge Shelley in this message because she cared so much for Helen, too.
