Richard “Bud” Fischer, 81, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2010 at the Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Wednesday at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue. Burial will follow at Sunny Hill Cemetery, Grimes, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
Bud was born April 7, 1929 in Des Moines to Margaret and Richard Fischer. His served in the US Army in Korea. Bud married the love of his life, Ruth Greif on August 4, 1948. He was employed at Firestone Tire and Rubber as a developmental engineer. Bud was active in the Boy Scouts and the Ankeny Little League. He lived for his family.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth; his sons, Dan (Georgiann), and Brian (Patricia) Fischer; His grandchildren, Susan Fischer, Andy Fischer and Amanda (Marshall) Ramsey; his great grandchildren, Michaela, Kara and Troy; his sisters, Sharon Hilding and Connie (Verlan) Mathes. A host of other family and beloved friends. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Margaret Fischer, brother, Harold and sisters, Gloria and Vivian.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Highland Park Lutheran Church.

I remember Bud from Firestone, I did not get to work with him much but did know he was a very dynamic person.

Dear Ruth, Dan, Brian, Sharon, Connie and all...... It saddened me to open the Des Moines Register today and find the obit for my cousin, Bud. I am now living in Burlington, IA and am sorry that I will be unable to attend the services tomorrow. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all. I have many fond memories of spending time with my cousin, Gloria and of the mischievous nature of Bud.... oh, how he loved to tease us. He will be sorely missed by many. Take care.

My concolences for your family's loss. Even though I didn't get a chance to meet with you all very often (hardly ever) I do remember Bud. I got to know him by listening to Gloria's stories about her brother. Sadly for us, we also laid her to rest not too long ago. Now they can reunite in Heaven where there is not pain and suffering.

My brother, I will miss you, as will the rest of my family. I was looking forward to our fall trip in September to the Mississippi River. My boys sure enjoyed when you and Ruth came out to the campgrounds in May to show them how to plug things in and what to do with your camper. I enjoyed our Brother/Sister dinners and playing rummy on the big board that you made for our games. My grandkids learned how to cuss and cheat at a few of those games.
For Bud's family, Please know that we all feel the sorrow that you are feeling right now. We are all praying for you in your time of sorrow. For each time you feel sad - think back on one of the many good memories - and I know you will smile.
