Evelyn Peterson

Evelyn (Fortney) Peterson, 89, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

Evelyn was born September 20, 1920 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She married Paul Peterson on September 24, 1942.

Evelyn’s love of travel and adventure took her to Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Central America, and the Islands of the Caribbean. She also had a broad range of interests that included being an avid reader, an award winning cook, and a collector of antique hatpins.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Paul, and her brother Mervin Fortney. Those left to cherish her memory include her brother Roger (Ruth) Fortney of Richardson, Texas; her five children; Paula (Gene) Martin of Lehigh, Gary (Nancy) Peterson of Slater, Greg (Connie) Peterson of Polk City, Dana (David Lamb) Peterson of Des Moines, and Jan (Terry) McGee of Urbandale; six grandchildren; Bart, Carl, Lisa, Ben, Kelley and Ryan; and ten great grandchildren; Jenna, Jensen, Kendall, Hunter, Connor, Jacob, Drew, Matthew, Vincent, Mitchell.

We wish to express our deepest gratitude to those who cared for Evelyn during her hospice stay, especially the nurses and aides.

A Celebration of Life visitation will be held Saturday, July 17, 2010 from 2 to 4 PM, at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, Des Moines, IA 50266.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice in Johnston, 5820 Winwood Drive, Johnston, IA 50131.
