Kathleen McMains, 62, passed away at her home July 13, 2010.
Kathleen was born June 4, 1948 in Des Moines to Bobby and Velta (Willis) Darling. She was a motor route carrier for the Des Moines Register for 17 years before her retirement in 2009. She was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed her flower garden. Her greatest passion in life was her family. She was the proud grandma of six and loved every minute of it. Keeping in touch with her 12 aunts and over 400 other extended relatives brought her great joy, she loved being a part of a large family.
Kathleen and her husband Bob would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary Friday, July 16th. Also left to cherish her memory are her children, Danny (Diane) McMains and Krissy (Tom) Stoll; grandchildren, Tommy 19, Trevor 15, Dylan 15, Joey 14, Dustin 13 and Tiffany 12; mother, Velta Darling; brother, Bobby (Marilyn) Darling, Jr.; mother-in-law, Dorothy Seuferer; and many other beloved extended relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Bobby Darling, Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2010 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

I have lost my BEST friend. I am going to miss her GREATLY along with all our set down conversations we have had so many times. Kathy was always there for me to air about my job and life in general. Now I guess Bob will have to listen to me complain... Every time I had an appointment for any thing Kathy would get out her pen and note it on the calandar for me so that she would remind me in case I would forget, which I did several times.
I hope to stay in touch with all of her family. Tommy you did a TERRIFIC job on that wonderful slide show. I would love to have a copy of that if I could.
Take Care and keep your chin up. That is what Kathy would want for all of us.
Kathy is away from our sight but she will forever be in our hearts..
What a JOY she was to be with.

Bob,
It broke our hearts to hear that Kathy lost her battle with cancer.
We know that she fought a valiant fight. We think of you as family ,
not just friends, being at the Register has away of bringing some special people together.
We were so glad that we had the opportunity to meet Kathy this side of heaven. Our world will be little dimmer with out her, but heaven will shine
a little brighter! You and your family are in our prayers. We hope that
you will keep in touch. May God give you peace and rest over the next few days.
