Betty Jean Blanchard

Betty Jean Blanchard, 79, passed away July 9, 2010 at Taylor House Hospice.

Betty was born June 5, 1931 in Des Moines to Thomas and Lola (Waller) Kritchard. She was a lifelong Des Moines resident and attended Heritage Assembly of God Church. Betty had a true passion for working with handicap children and volunteered countless hours at Easter Seals, the Des Moines Public Schools and Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Her family was her life and she spent much of her time writing letters and sending cards to those she loved.

Betty is survived by her children, Kenny (Shirley) Grandstaff, Becky (Steve) Garner and Cynthia Beardsley; step-children, Mary Ellen Blanchard and Russell (Flo) Blanchard; sister, Kathy Shively; eleven grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Max Blanchard.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
