Dr. Vincent Fiorica

Dr. Vincent Fiorica, 78, died peacefully July 9, 2010 at home with his wife & family by his side. Dr Fiorica’s body has been donated to the University of Iowa Medical School and there will be no services.

Vincent was born December 12, 1931 in Rochester, NY to Rosalie Anne (Loverde) and Vincenzo Fiorica.

He was a 1949 high school graduate, graduate of the University of Rochester, NY in 1953; received his PHD at the University of Illinois in 1958; received his MD at the University of Oklahoma in 1975.

Dr. Fiorica was the instructor of the University of Iowa Nursing School from 1959 to 1961; he did medical research at the FAA in Oklahoma City, OK from 1961 to 1971; he was Staff Physician at the VA Hospital in Muskogee, OK from 1980 to 1988; he was Staff Physician and Chief of Medicine at the Des Moines VA from 1988 to 1991; and was Associate Medical Director for Principal Insurance Company from 1992 to 1998.

Vincent was an avid member of the Civic Center and loved musicals. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, working with flowers and traveling with his wife Patricia.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Thorn); Son, Vincent Michael; Daughter, Marcy Flynn; Step Son, Russell and wife Stephanie Anderson; Grandchildren, Joshua Thorn Anderson; Vincent Joseph, Mario Michael and Natalie Anne Fiorica; Sisters, Mary Liberi and Anne Fiorica.

The family would like to thank John Stoddard Staff, Dr. Westburg, nurse, Jan; Hospice of Central Iowa, Dana Delaney, Mark and Dana McCarthy.
