Doris Stuchis

Doris Eloise Stuchis, age 89, of Des Moines, died Monday, March 5, 2007 at Kavanagh House on 56th St. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, March 9th at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. Visitation with the family present will be held one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Doris, the daughter of Bliss and Corda James, was born June 27, 1917 on a farm near Carlisle, Iowa. She graduated from Carlisle High School in 1934. She worked for Rollins Hosiery Mill, which is where she met Arthur. Doris and Arthur were united in marriage on July 2, 1938. She was a member of Eastern Star and Grant Park Christian Church, where she had many life long friends. For the last several years, Doris has been attending First Federated Church with her family. Doris loved the outdoors, traveling, gardening and watching birds. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends; but her biggest joy was spending time with her loving family.
Doris is survived by her children, Sherry (Jesse) Roberts of Lewisville, TX, Art Stuchis, Jr. of Des Moines and Cindy (Jim) Kite of Des Moines; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis (Dean) Person of Ankeny; sister-in-law, Virginia James of Carlisle; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur; her siblings, Robert James and Velma Cleveland.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Grant Park Christian Church or First Federated Church.
