Darlene Samuelson

Darlene Samuelson passed away at the age of 87 on Saturday June 12th, 2010 at Hospice of Central Iowa’s Kavanagh House.

She was born in Gault, Mo. where the early part of her childhood was spent farming and the early part of WWII was spent working in the Salina, California area. She spent most of her adult life in Des Moines and part in Baird, IA. Darlene retired from Wallace Homestead where she was a Book Binder and spent her retirement years traveling to Texas during the winter months, entertaining her grandchildren and tending her garden.

She was preceded in death by her husband Laurel Samuelson, her sister, Betty and brother, Ivan. She is survived by her son Lonnie (Debbie) Umdenstock of Altoona; her daughter Glenda (Doug) Dawson, Sr. of Des Moines; her brother, Don Philipsen; grandchildren, Doug Dawson, Jr., Ryan Dawson, Ali Umdenstock, Angie Craft and Amy Dudley; four great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Service will be held on Tuesday, June 15th at 7:00 PM at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home; visiting and viewing will be from 5:00-7:00 PM; the Committal Service will be on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
