Richard (Dick) Kampas, passed from this life on June 9, 2010. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be 5-8 Monday evening at Hamilton’s on Lyon St.
He is survived by his children, Jason of Johnston; Mary Beth of Clear Lake; their mother, Chriss Kampas Oliver; Rick, Randy and Londa Goetting; nephew, Paul & Carolyn; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents, brothers and sisters.
Dick was a star football player in high school and accelerated at both offense and defense.He played the drums in bands in the 60’s and owned the 505 Club & Fat Alberts. He was a manager at So’s Your Mother.
Dick enjoyed going to antique swap meets and used to go to White Cloud, Kansas in the 1970’s to one of the biggest antique collectors swap meets in the country. Dick loved the outdoors and never missed an opportunity to take his family fishing.

Dick worked at Concert Security Consultants for a number of years and had the honor of personally guarding legendary greats such as BB King, Journey, Styx, Van Halen, The Grateful Dead, Kris Kristofferson, Bryan Adams, Adam Ant, Kansas and numerous others. BB King and Kris Kristofferson both offered Dick a full time job to come on the road with them to be their personal full time body guard, but he turned down both offers to be with his family and help raise his children. He also worked at Armstrong Tire for 15 years to help make ends meet.
He retired from Des Moines Asphalt in 1990.
