Maxine Elaine DeFord

Maxine E. DeFord, 80, died on Monday, May 31, 2010. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2010 from 5 to 7 pm at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 4 at Greenfield Cemetery in Greenfield, IA at 10:00 a.m.

Maxine was born in Greenfied, IA to David and Myrtle Dorsey on January 30, 1930. She had four brothers and two sisters. She married Glenn DeFord in 1948 and they were blessed with six children.

She was a good mom, friend, sister, and grandmother. Everyone who knew her liked her. She loved her family very much. She also enjoyed singing, dancing, country and gospel music and fishing. Maxine was a talented sketch artist, although she would beg to differ. She also played the harmonica and was in a kitchen band.

Maxine is survived her children, Jolene Lewis, Dean (Mary) DeFord, Betty (Bud) Beveridge, Helen (Doug) Suckow, and Russell DeFord; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Verne Dorsey of Mesa, AZ and Joe Dorsey of Greenfield, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn and son Don.
