Service Details
Emma Violet Rogers, 98, passed away Friday, May 28, 2010 at the Iowa Life Center in Des Moines. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial at Vandalia Cemetery. Visitation will occur one hour prior to the service.
Emma was born November 8, 1911 to William and Bertha Rice in Purple Springs, Alberta, Canada and became a naturalized US citizen in 1938.
After graduating from Ankeny High School, she attended the American Institute of Business where she received recognition and an award for her proficiency in shorthand and typing. Emma retired as office manager from Thermogas, Inc. in Des Moines after a career of 30 years.
Emma is survived by her loving daughter, Ramona Albright of San Francisco, CA; sister, Joyce (Don) Taylor of Washington, IA; and devoted nieces, Donna Crawford, Sue Downey, and Joyce White, all of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hal Rogers; son, James Albright; sisters, Mayme Decker and Ethel Coen; and brothers, Lloyd and Wesley Rice.

No one appreciates Emma Rogers more than I. As Founding Pastor of Westkirk Presbyterian Church in Urbandale, I regarded Emma with profound gratitude for her loyalty and dedication as a Charter member. She frequently served as hostess for her Circle. She and Hal were unfailing at worship each Sunday. They printed the Sunday bulletin and monthly newsletter in their home. They contributed generously to the building of our new edifice. The pulpit has her name inscribed as a fitting memorial to her wish that the Word of God be published with power, conviction and winsomeness. Emma was the backbone of Westkirk in its formative years. She held a place of honor among the members. She was willing to pass the baton of leadership to younger members. Her legacy remains and the Lord has blessed her with "well done, Emma. Enter into the portals prepared for you from the foundation of the world." Thank you, Emma!
