Thomas Erling Maland

Thomas E. Maland, 84, died Friday, May 28, 2010 from Parkinson’s Disease at the Iowa Veterans Care Center in Des Moines. A funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with cremation to follow service. Visitation will be held from 12-2:30 p.m. prior to the service.

Thomas was born February 1, 1926 to Edwin and Anna Maland and served in the Navy. He lived in California for many years where he retired from heating and cooling. In 1993, he moved to Des Moines where he continued to work at the US Postal Service and Anderson Erickson. Thomas loved to drive through the mountains in the rain and to spend time with his family.

Thomas is survived by his wife of 60 years, Geraldine; children, Gary (Patty Watts) Maland, Keith (Helen) Maland, Kimberely (Greg) Burkhead, and Melanie (Barry) Greenfield; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (Ruth) Maland; sisters, Dorothy Normandin and Barbara (David) Rosensteel; and many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry; and sisters, Alvina and Janet.

Memorial contributions will be received by the family.
