LaVern "Slim" Lee

LaVern Marion Lee, 79, passed away May 27, 2010. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines. Visitation will be on Monday, May 31, 2010 from 5 to 7 pm, and the funeral service on Tuesday, June 1, at 10:00 am.

LaVern was born on December 2, 1930 in Perry, IA to Josephine and John Lee. He graduated from Perry High School and the American Institute of Business. He retired from MidAmerican Energy where he worked as a meter reader collector. LaVern loved being around people and his life revolved around love; love of God, his family and the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed traveling with his wife to Panama Beach, FL where they walked the beach collecting shells to make shell wreaths and watching sunsets. LaVern was a member of West Des Moines United Methodist Church, Cub Masters 242, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers #499 and a Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen; sons, Kevin of Pensacola, FL, Kirk (Sara) of Des Moines, Kyle of Pleasant Hill; brother, Kenneth (Miriam) of Olathe, KS; and grandchildren, Cody, Kaitlyn, Eric and Johnathan. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert.
