Richard LaVerne Carlson

Richard LaVerne Carlson, 49, passed away on May 26, 2010 at his home.

Richard was a member of Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church, where he was a Trustee. He enjoyed motorcycle riding with his wife and friends and was a member of the GWTA Polk County Wings. He also enjoyed outdoor sports and spending time with his family and friends. He had the nickname Bart because his sister couldn’t pronounce his name.

Richard is survived by his wife, Lori; daughter Tammy (Mike) Bernard; son Brad; grandson Keegan Bernard; mother Peggy Becker (David Lee Anderson); father Robert (Penny) Carlson; sister Darla Sommers; brothers Bob Carlson (Karrie Ferguson) and Jerry (Tammi) Hausman; brother-in-law Mike (Jill) Carr, sister-in-laws Sheri (Alan) Hawkins and Kristi (Jeff) Carr-Gitchel, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his step father, Donald Becker; father-in-law, Rex Carr; grandparents Ada and LaVern “Bus” Carlson; grandmother Nina Brower and brother Roman Becker.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 29th at Ft. Des Moines United Methodist Church with burial following at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Orilla. A visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home.
