Dorothy “Dodie” Hayes, 84, was born April 11, 1926 in Bondurant, the daughter of Harry and Rebecca (McIntosh) Frakes. She passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Taylor House in Des Moines.
Dodie is survived by her daughter, Joyce Watts; grandsons, Eric (Diane) Bruce, Randall (Jennifer) Hayes, Kenneth (Lisa) Watts and Nicholas (Camille) Hayes; granddaughter-in-law, Susan Hayes; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings, Bill Frakes, Coral Jones and Donna (Avery) Speas; daughter-in-law, Donita Hayes and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Eugene “Bump” Hayes; her son, Rodney Hayes; grandson, David Hayes; sisters, Pearl Efnor and Margaret Justice and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Bondurant Christian Church, 306 Grant Street S., with burial to follow at Bondurant Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday evening at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Bondurant Christian Church or Taylor House in loving memory of Dodie.

Logged on here and it seems like there should be so many more posts than just three, but I realize that we got a lot of cards for you and not everyone knows that the funeral home does this sort of thing--new technology.
Eric and I came back from the Commissary today and I looked over and knew exactly what he was thinking but I asked anyway. He told me he just wished he could talk to you and then the tears rolled down his cheeks. There's not a day since your passing that we haven't wanted to call you or hear your voice. It's hard to dial your number and know that you won't ever be the one answering the phone again.
You came into my life when I needed a Grandma and you became so much more--friend and someone to confide in. I always knew I could tell you anything and it wouldn't go anywhere. I miss your hugs and kisses. I miss seeing my kids sit on your lap and the smiles on their faces when you talked to them.
Yesterday, I watched Anthony driving his yellow jeep and wondered if you could still see him? He's handling it so much better than when you first got it for him. Isn't running over my toes anymore.
Both Hannah and Lauren were so brave at the hospice with you. You were so sick. I didn't know if we should let the kids come or not? I'm glad we decided to let you see them one last time. They both miss you terrible, but they understand that you needed to go.
Eric and I are going to be ok. We'll do this like you and Bumper taught us--together. I miss Bump a lot too. I hope you gave him the kiss I asked you to when you got to Heaven.
Well, this has become quite the letter. I was only going to leave my name, but now I've sat here and typed and cried. They say it's good to get things out...

So sorry for the loss of Aunt Dorothy. She was the sweetest, kindess, gentle lady, ever...
I always remember her with her lifelong companions, her poodles!
I know she was greeted with open arms into heaven. Now back with Uncle Gene, and Rod. She is in a much better place now.
You are all in our thoughts and prayers, Joyce, Eric, Kenny and families.
