William "Bill" Smith

William Smith, 68, husband of Suellen Smith and father of Jenny Werger and Jason Smith, son of Charles & Bessie (Towler) Smith, was born January 2, 1942 in Richmond, VA. He passed away Friday, May 21, 2010 at his home.

He attended Cal Poly, Florida State MSW, & American Baptist Seminary. On May 1, 1965, he married Suellen in Pomona, CA. He was a devoted father, husband, & grandfather. He worked for Crossroads Mental Health Center in Creston, IA for over 20 years. He retired in 2000 and they moved to Lake Panorama. He remained active in retirement, volunteering to provide mental health treatment. He enjoyed his family and traveling. He was a very spiritual and peaceful man, loved by everyone.

He is survived by his wife Suellen of Panora, daughter; Jenny Werger of Panora, son; Jason & wife Michelle of Storm Lake; grandchildren, Julia Werger, Quinn, Emmett, Fei, and Rosie Smith; sister, and Jane Minor of Pomona, CA. Also surviving are a niece, 2 great-nieces, 2 great-nephews, and his beloved pets, Sashi & Chloe.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 27, 2010 from 5-7 PM at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, IA. Local arrangements were handled by Twigg Funeral Home, Panora, IA.
