Dorothy Cornwell

Dorothy I. Cornwell, 83, died Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Sunny View Nursing Home in Ankeny. She was born on December 7, 1926 to Otis and Ora Townsend in Dominguez, CA.

Dorothy grew up in Long Beach, CA, but has lived in Ankeny for 60 years. She was a member of Ankeny First United Methodist Church. Dorothy drove a school bus for the Ankeny School District and then was a driver for Heartland AEA. Dorothy was an avid bird watcher.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Donald A.; son, Donald O. (Kathy); grandchildren, Stacy, Jay (Lacey), and Nevin Cornwell; and great-granddaughter, Mckinley Cornwell, all of Iowa; son, Dale (Charla); and grandson, Loren Cornwell, all of Ohio; daughter, Joyce Brown (Jeff); and grandchildren, Christa and Craig Brown, all of Ohio; brothers, Forest Townsend of California and Harold Townsend of Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Ora Townsend; and brothers, Wayne and Chuck Townsend.

Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2010 at Ankeny United Methodist Church, 206 SW Walnut Street, with burial at Greenwood Friends Cemetery. Friends may visit with family from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines.
