Irene Elizabeth Leach

Irene Elizabeth Leach, 82, passed away at Wesley Acres May 14, 2010.

Irene was born September 30, 1927 in Creston, IA to Clyde and Jessie (Woosley) Hartman. She lived on a farm near Zion, IA and moved to Des Moines in 1944. Irene worked at Northwestern Bell for 10 years and then as a secretary for Park Avenue Christian Church for 35 years before her retirement in 2000. After retirement, she volunteered at Mailing Mama’s doing non-profit mailings. Irene was a member of Park Avenue Christian Church.

Irene is survived by her daughters, Donna (Denny) Howell of Des Moines and Delores (John) Peterson of Lebanon, IL; grandchildren, Toby (Laurel) Howell, Mike Leach, Amy (Joe) Stewart and Jennifer Blankinship; great-grandchildren, Trenton Agan, Memphis Howell and Ayden Stewart. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Clyde, Jr.; her husband, Don in 1994; and son, Lynn in 2005.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Park Avenue Christian Church followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.

Memorial contributions may be made to Park Avenue Christian Church or WesleyLife Hospice Care.

The family would like to thank Kara, Carley and Maura of Hospice and the staff of the Austin Center at Wesley Acres for the kindness and compassion that they showed toward their mother.
