Lorna Stevenson

Lorna Stevenson, 78, went to be with her Lord May 14, 2010 at Taylor House Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Westchester Evangelical Free Church, 4919 Aurora Avenue in Des Moines, followed by burial at Mitchellville Cemetery in Mitchellville. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hamilton’s Mitchellville Funeral Home, 303 Center Avenue S. in Mitchellville.

Lorna was born June 21, 1931to Gaylord and Helen (Hibbs) Burnett. She was devoted to her faith and her family. She also loved music. Lorna served her church as deaconess, Sunday school teacher, choir director and ministered to others through song at many weddings and funerals. She was a wonderful cook and loved boating and gardening.

Lorna enjoyed playing games and loved winning. She treasured her time with family and friends and lived her life with a faithful servant’s heart.

Lorna is survived by her husband of 59 years, Donald; children, Marcia (Lonne) Fritch, Greg (Sarah) Stevenson and Maria (Jim) Maixner; sisters, Althea Lord and Mary Vermie; nine grandchildren, Michael (Kristi) Fritch, Liane (Jim) Woosley, Lindsay Fritch, Ellen (Joel) Good, Drew (Melissa) Stevenson, Anna Stevenson, Lauren (Dustin) Bremner, Rachel (Mitch) McDaniel and David Maixner; four great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Cooper Fritch and Sullivan and Lincoln Woosley. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Max and Jerry Burnett; and her sisters, Wanda Dunbar and Mildred Woods.
