Hildred Elizabeth Stenstrom died May 12, 2010. She was born to Jessie May Proudfoot Clark and John Raymond Clark in Iowa City, Iowa April 10, 1918.

She lived most of her life in the Des Moines area, where she graduated from North High School. While her husband served in WWII, she was a homemaker, raising two small children. After the war, they moved to Camp Dodge where Bob was the electrician. Two more children were born to the family. She continued as a homemaker, school volunteer, 4-H leader and Cub Scout leader. She began a career with Younkers followed by Blue Cross Blue Shield where she was in customer service. She was a longtime active member of First Lutheran Church, serving on the altar guild and as Sunday school superintendent. Hildred was often working at the church or helping other members. In retirement, she was in the Genealogical Society, the Polk County Historical Society and the Pioneer Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Carl Robert “Bob” Stenstrom in 1996; her parents; sister Virginia Reichenbach; twin sister, Mildred; and her grandson, Chad David Stenstrom. Hildred is survived by her children; Deanne (Jack) Knox of Austin, TX, Robert Stenstrom of Maiden, NC, Ron (Dee) Stenstrom of Ames, IA and Art (Becky) Stenstrom of Des Moines; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 17, 2010 at Capitol Hill Lutheran Church, 511 Des Moines St., with burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home.
