Robert "Bob" Rockwell

Robert “Bob” Rockwell, 82, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2010 at Altoona Nursing and Rehab Center. His funeral service will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Simpson United Methodist Church in Des Moines, with burial following at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, where you can meet with the family from 6-8 PM Monday, May 10, 2010.

Bob was born June 1, 1927 in Des Moines to Vernon and Leona Rockwell. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. He farmed 80 acres in Lucas County for 17 years. He was a welder for Johnson Machine and Eagle Iron Works where he retired in 1989. He was the only state certified welder able to weld on state bridges. Bob was a life member of Baldwin Patterson American Legion Post 274 where he was the finance officer.

Bob is survived by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn. They have two children: Laverna (Tom) Hoke and Robert (Eliz) Rockwell; five grandchildren: Amanda (Jeff) Robert, Katie (Joe) Sickels, Phillip, Christopher, and Zachary Rockwell; and one great grandchild, baby boy Robert on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
