Angelina Perry Mauro, 96 of Des Moines, IA, wife of the late James J. Mauro passed away peacefully with family by her side on Wednesday, May 5, 2010. Born on April 11, 1914 to the late Giuseppa (Josephine) Balistrieti and Brother Joseph Perry, both parents were Italian immigrants. She was preceded by her sisters, Sarah Plemone and Rose Fornato, brothers, Mike Antenucci, Frank Perry and Peter Perry.

She was a self-reliant person working at a young age in the Loffredo Gardens. Later she worked at the Ordnance Plant during WWII. She became the manicurist at the Des Moines Club barber shop. She remarked that she held the hands of the city leaders. She worked there for 30 years. She loved her clients and they loved her. She and her beloved Jimmy of 48 years enjoyed ballroom dancing and taking cruises. They toured Europe several times visiting their parent’s birth places in Italy.

Surviving are her daughters, Sandra Irene Harne and Dolores Ann Graves (Keith); five grandchildren, Van (Julie) Harne, Cheryl Harne Swartzbaugh (Tom), Teresa Harne Layton (Jerry), Kelly Graves Shockley (Scott) and Amy Graves Edelberg (Erik) and 10 great grandchildren.

The family wishes to give special thanks to her loving daughter, Sandra and everyone who helped care for Angelina.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, May 10, 2010 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, with a 9:30 a.m. visitation, with burial to follow the service at Glendale Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Church or to Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.
