George Hanson, 74, died Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at his home in Des Moines. He was born September 20, 1935 in Madison, Kansas to Edna and Henry Hanson, and he grew up on a farm in Greenwood County, Kansas.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, feeding squirrels and birds, jigsaw puzzles, traveling, and spending time with his family and granddogs.
George is survived by his wife of 54 years, Velda; daughters, Sherry (Daniel) Scarpino and Deb Krause; son, Bruce (Lori) Hanson; grandsons, Sean and Eric Rathert and Dustin (Desiree) Brown; great-granddaughters, Zoë and Adrianna; sisters, Virginia Edwards of Wichita, KS and Judy (Chuck) Ferguson of Topeka, KS; and uncle, Bill (Lois) Hanson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers-in-law
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 10, 2010 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. A visitation with the family present will be from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, May 9, 2010 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the local Animal Rescue League in loving memory of George.

Velda and family,
Our hearts go out to you and all of you are in our thoughts and prayers during this time.
We will miss George's sense of humor, but the fun we all had together is cherished and will always be in our memory. We are so thankful for the time we spent with him.
