Matthew Alan Johnson, 27, died in a tragic car accident with his dear friend Bryant Tuel on Monday, May 3, 2010. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 6 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be on Friday, May 7 at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway, West Des Moines at 10:30 a.m.

Matthew was born on February 22, 1983 in Des Moines, Iowa to Roger and Kathleen (Beveridge) Johnson. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 2001 and then received his associate degree after attending Upper Iowa and Iowa Central College. He was a football player in high school and college and an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed hunting, which he started at age 8, with his father. They hunted for ducks, geese, deer, pheasant and also enjoyed bow hunting as well. Matthew was an avid outdoors man and also enjoyed fishing for walleye with his dad in Canada. He spent many special times with his mom, golfing, playing cards, and cooking. Matthew loved spending time with his friends! To quote them, “he lights up a room with his smile”. Matthew was a sales representative with Access Publishing.

He is survived by his parents, Roger (Paege) Johnson and Kathleen (Chris Osborn) Johnson; sister, Alissa (Andrew) Johnson-Peer; niece, Alivia; nephew Drew; step-brothers, Michael Culver and Benjamin “Max” Culver; many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. Matthew was preceded in death by his grandparents and very close friend “brother” Ben Scharnberg.
