George N. Corbin, 84, died Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at University Park Nursing Home in Des Moines. He was born on May 17, 1925 to George and Julia Corbin in Des Moines.
George is survived by his wife, Wilma; children: Eric (Mary), Gary (Susan), George, Laura; grandchildren, Ian, Erin, Amanda, Teresa, and Jerry; siblings, Lorraine Lewis, Shirley Lewis, Donald Corbin, Marilyn Shultz, Le Roy Corbin and Phyllis Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Mary; and brothers, Norman and Gerald.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue. Friends may visit with family one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of George.

I was sorry to read about George's passing. I remember him as a good father of my childhood friends, George, Eric and Gary. I know life was not always easy for him. I remember when the packing plant closed and when he lost his daughter, but George more than anyone showed that no matter what happens in life you carry on by loving and supporting your family. It is a comforting thought for me to know that now my father has another friend with him in heaven.

Uncle George,
I'm so sorry for the pain you all are in. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you. I hope you find peace knowing Uncle George is no longer in pain, he is happy and with a lot of family. We will always have our memories. Love you all

Uncle Georgie was a favorite uncle of mine. As a kid, I can't count
all the times he made me laugh with his jokes and gentle teasing.
He will be greatly missed for I know he was truely loved.
My thoughts and prayers are with my Aunt and my cousins and their
families during this time of loss and sadness.

I will always remember Grandpa making me an English muffin for breakfast with peanut butter on it. He would also have all kinds of neat little things to give me. Anything from rocks to key chains. Grandpa would get the bats out of the upstairs so all of grandkids sleeping upstairs wouldn't be scared. And he was a good snake trapper!
I will never forget when his dog King died. He loved that dog very much and was so sad when he died. Grandpa and I waited on the front porch until someone came to pick up King and take him away; and then we continued to sit on the porch together in sadness.
Grandpa was a smart and loving man. He was devoted to his family and wife and to the church he attended for a number of years. He always had a smile for everyone and would do anything he could to help someone out. He was a very hard working man and made sure his family and grandchildren were safe and taken care of.
Grandpa I will miss your hugs and kisses and your wisdom and your laugh. I will miss the smell of your aftershave that was left on my skin after a bear hug. We are all blessed that we had Grandpa in our lives.

George was a very sweet man who was always kind and loving. He loved his children and his family and put them at the top of his list always. I was so impressed that George never complained about anything, even in his last days, when he was in so much pain. I am so glad that I had a chance to know him and to have his wonderful first born son as my husband. Heaven will welcome you with open arms,George!

My father is my hero and my role model. He taught me to be inquisitive, appreciate classical music, and to be accepting of a larger world. He taught me how to work on a car, rebuild a carborater, to put things together, and to tear them apart. He trusted me to drive the truck which he received from his father. My father loved me and that is the best of all. --George
