E. Loretta Hall, 84, passed away April 25, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center.

Loretta was born March 25, 1926 in Des Moines to Henry N. and Minnie M. (Morrow) Wilcots. She graduated from North High School and went on to graduate from AIB College of Business. Loretta was the first African American to work for Preferred Risk Insurance. She also worked for High Scope, where she did assessment testing and provided follow up support for high risk students. She followed many of her students from elementary school through Jr. High. Loretta volunteered for many organizations including being a den mother for the Cub Scouts and spending countless hours supporting voter registration and working Election Day polls.

Loretta was a devout Christian. She was an active 62 year member of Corinthian Baptist Church where she was passionate about serving in whatever capacity she was needed.

Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, Warren N. Hall, Sr.; her parents; and siblings, Sherman Wilcots, Wayne Wilcots, Cartrell Wilcots, John Mark Wilcots, Joseph Wilcots, James Anthony Wilcots and Rebecca Wilcots. She is survived by her sons, Warren N. (Loretta) Hall, Jr. of Des Moines and Phillip D. (Tracy) Hall of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Neil A. Hall of Tempe, AZ, Stuart A. Hall of Ames, IA, Quintin J. Hall of Des Moines and Elyse N. Hall of West Des Moines; and her siblings, Virgie Monroe of Des Moines, Henry (Eileen) Wilcots, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA, Imogene Henry of Seattle, WA, Lois Newcomb of Des Moines, Angeline (Wilbert) Lucas of Denver, CO and Michael (Renee) Wilcots of Los Angeles, CA.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Corinthian Baptist Church, 814 School St. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
