E. Loretta Hall, 84, passed away April 25, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center.
Loretta was born March 25, 1926 in Des Moines to Henry N. and Minnie M. (Morrow) Wilcots. She graduated from North High School and went on to graduate from AIB College of Business. Loretta was the first African American to work for Preferred Risk Insurance. She also worked for High Scope, where she did assessment testing and provided follow up support for high risk students. She followed many of her students from elementary school through Jr. High. Loretta volunteered for many organizations including being a den mother for the Cub Scouts and spending countless hours supporting voter registration and working Election Day polls.
Loretta was a devout Christian. She was an active 62 year member of Corinthian Baptist Church where she was passionate about serving in whatever capacity she was needed.
Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, Warren N. Hall, Sr.; her parents; and siblings, Sherman Wilcots, Wayne Wilcots, Cartrell Wilcots, John Mark Wilcots, Joseph Wilcots, James Anthony Wilcots and Rebecca Wilcots. She is survived by her sons, Warren N. (Loretta) Hall, Jr. of Des Moines and Phillip D. (Tracy) Hall of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Neil A. Hall of Tempe, AZ, Stuart A. Hall of Ames, IA, Quintin J. Hall of Des Moines and Elyse N. Hall of West Des Moines; and her siblings, Virgie Monroe of Des Moines, Henry (Eileen) Wilcots, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA, Imogene Henry of Seattle, WA, Lois Newcomb of Des Moines, Angeline (Wilbert) Lucas of Denver, CO and Michael (Renee) Wilcots of Los Angeles, CA.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Corinthian Baptist Church, 814 School St. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.

Phil, Im so very sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. Theres never anything that anyone can say that will ease the emptiness of losing the one who carried you inside of her until you took your first breath. But, what I will tell you is that in time it will get easier, in Gods good time.
In her obituary is stated that she was a 62 year member of Corinthian Baptist Church where she was passionate serving in whatever capacity she was needed. Well now shell be serving someplace else, with the same passion and for the same reason, to help prepare a place for you, your brother and her Grandchildren.
So take the memories, the special moments and the love she gave you and hold on to it and remember, shes gone home and her new home is of Gods goodness, grace, love and mercy.

My thoughts are with all of you during this time of loss. I loved getting to know your Mom when I became a part of the Rollison family. She was a desr lady and will be missed. I am sorry I could not be there in person. May God be ever so present to all of you.

To the family of Loretta Hall, we, the pastor, associate ministers, and the entire church family extend to you our deepest sympathy in the passing of your loved one. Life is but a stopping place, a pause in whats to be, a resting place along the road to sweet eternity. We all have different journeys, different paths along the way. We all were meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay. Our destination is a place far greater than we know. For some the journeys quicker, for some, the journeys slow. And when the journey finally ends, well claim a great reward & find an everlasting peace, together with the Lord. Trusting that God will be especially close to you in these hours of need.

Warren & Phil and Family,
There are no words to express how deeply I feel your sorrow. Thank you for sharing your Mom with me for 50+ years.
She was not only our neighbor but my Mom's Best Friend, soap opera reviewer and walking partner. She was My Other Mother. She was my "Go To" Mom when I needed someone to talk to who would not pull any punches. She was wise and didn't mind sharing her opinions and her love in equal doses. When I came back home and was adrift, she told me "Your latter is your greater" and left it up to me to find out what that meant. I did. And I got a chance to share that with her before I left.
When I would offer to pick her up for church on those cold wintry Sunday mornings, she would laugh and thank me for 'Driving Miss Daisy'. I enjoyed every minute of it and did it with love.
Even when I moved back to California she made me laugh. I will never forget the phone call I received from her when the first big snow hit Des Moines this past winter. She called me and said, "Little Missy, you need to get your butt back to Des Moines and shovel your mom and my driveway. You can't spoil us old ladies like that and then leave!" We had a good laugh.
Warren and Phil,she loved you guys so much and was so proud of the men you became, your wives who became her daughters and the families that you raised. And anyone who knew her knew that her grandkids were her delight.
Rest assured, though her physical body has left this earth, her legacy will live on in you all.
