Gary G. Thomas

Gary G. Thomas, 71, passed away Wednesday April 21, 2010 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Services will be on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 10:00 am Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, with burial following at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held Monday April 26, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Gary was born May 23, 1938 to Maxine and Richard Thomas. He married Dixie Spencer in April 15, 1986. Gary was an avid deer hunter and loved bowling. He served on the Board of Directors for the American Bowling Congress. He was also a volunteer fire fighter for the township of Bloomfield and an auxiliary police officer for the city of Des Moines. Gary retired from John Deere Corporation in January 1989.

Gary is survived by his wife of 24 years, Dixie; sons Rory Thomas, Des Moines and Rick (Rena) Thomas, Des Moines; Step-sons, Bill (Rhonda) Davis, Doug (Jeni) Davis, Des Moines; and Step-Daughter Mendy (Tim) Wears of Des Moines; grandchildren, Jennifer, and Logan Thomas of Des Moines; step-grandchildren, Sara, Spencer, and Clayton Davis of Des Moines, William (Sam) Wears, Stacey and Christina Wears of Des Moines, and Kendall and Shelby Davis of Des Moines; great-grandchild Taylor; sister, Paula Nichols of Pleasant Hill; and brothers, Grant Thomas of Des Moines, and David Thomas of Omaha. Gary is preceded in death by his father and brother, Lynn.
