Charles McConnell

Charles Edward McConnell, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 16, 2010. He was born in Cabool, Missouri, November 1, 1943. He graduated high school at age 17, enlisted in the Air Force and served for four years. After discharge from the military he became a mail handler for the U.S. Postal Service. He retired after 27 years.

November 1, 1969 he married Judy Nagle and they had three children; Marc, Brent, and Melinda. He was a very devoted father, grandfather, and husband. He was a member of D.A.V. and New Testament Baptist Church, Des Moines.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; his daughter, Melinda McConnell; two granddaughters, Jozey McCoy and Belinda McConnell, Des Moines; a stepson, Bret (Shirley) Douglas; three step-grandchildren; Carissa, Cody, and Caleigh, Florida; his mother, Christina Kirkpatrick; and two sisters, Bonnie Dolan, Arizona, and Brenda Walker, Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his father, William; a brother, Donald; two sons, Brent and Marc; and a granddaughter, Kendra McCoy.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2010 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit with family from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
