Ankeey “Hank” Gioffredi, 91, died suddenly Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born June 22, 1918 in Carney, Iowa, the son of Armido and Pia (Guistina) Gioffredi.

He was a passionate gardener while spending time outdoors. Hank was an Army veteran of World War II and proudly served his country in the Aleutian Islands and Germany. Hank retired from American Motors in Milwaukee after 30 years of service where he also served on the UAW Board Local 75. He was a member of the Boline-Manfredi VFW Post #9662 and was trustee of both Oralabor and Union Cemeteries in Ankeny for the past 30 years.

Hank is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Victoria Gioffredi and his daughters, Kathleen (James) Serafino of Troy, Michigan and Patricia (Ted) Brueggemann of Cedarburg, Wisconsin. He was the devoted Nonno of granddaughters, Lauren (Matthew) Re of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Lindsey (fiancé, Dr. John Coates) Brueggemann of Toledo, Ohio and Gina Brueggemann of Cedarburg, Wisconsin. Hank is also survived by his special nephews, Joe and Jon Gioffredi, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren in Michigan, and many other friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his six brothers and his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2010 at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart, 510 E. 1st St. in Ankeny. Burial will follow at Oralabor Cemetery where military honors will be provided. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to P.O. Box 361, Ankeny, Iowa 50021, to assist with the Oralabor Cemetery Angel Project established in loving memory of Hank.
