Sharon Kay (Phillips) Dennis, 60, of Des Moines, went to be with the Lord on February 24, 2007 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, after a courageous fight against cancer.
Sharon’s family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 27, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, in Des Moines. Services will be held on Wednesday, February 28, at First Federated Church in Des Moines at 10:30 a.m. with burial following at Glendale Cemetery.
Sharon was born April 23, 1946, in Creston, Iowa to Rollen and Betty (Russell) Phillips. The family settled in Ames, Iowa, where Sharon graduated from Ames High School in 1964. She studied at Iowa State University before being joined in marriage to Raymond C. Dennis on March 6, 1965, at the First United Methodist Church in Ames. Sharon enjoyed a successful career as a client associate, first at Meredith Corporation and later at EDS in Des Moines.
Sharon was a creative person, whose interests included designing handcrafted greeting cards, sewing, knitting, and other needlework. She loved birds, antiques, and spending time with friends and family. Sharon was a lady of great faith and a member of First Federated Church.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Ray Dennis; son Michael Dennis and his wife Janet of West Des Moines; daughter Merrily Guyer, her husband Aaron and grandson Carter, all of Wichita, Kansas; her parents, Rollen and Betty Phillips of Ames; siblings, Linda Lucente of Arlington, Texas, Rhonda Dutton of Ames, and Rick Phillips and his wife Carol of Columbus, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.
