Lester Raper

Lester M. Raper, 97, died Friday, April 9, 2010 at his home in Des Moines. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2010 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. in Des Moines, with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Lester was born July 15, 1912 in Des Moines to Effie and Fred Raper. He was a Mason, and belonged to the Shriners, where he was past president of the tux brigade, and also a member of Indianola Heights Christian Church.

Lester is survived by his children: Marianne Solem, Donald (Sheryl Jacob), Doug (Marty), and Randall Raper; 11 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marian; 2 brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, April 11, 2010 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa in loving memory of Lester.
