Zelma Marie Treanor was born May 24, 1912, in Deep River, Iowa, daughter of William Henry and Lelah (Butcher) Wadsworth where she was raised and educated. On September 1, 1928, Zelma was united in marriage with John Treanor. The couple made their home in Des Moines, Iowa. John preceded her in death on October 4, 1970. Zelma was dedicated to her family and her faith. She was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church.

Zelma passed away surrounded by family on March 29, 2010 at Fleur Heights Care Center in Des Moines, at the age of 97 years. In addition to her husband, John; she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Everett, Kenneth, Raymond, Melvin, and Marvin Wadsworth; sisters, Ada Fisch and Vada Oldaker; and sons, John Jr. and David. Zelma is survived by her children, Donald, and his wife, Louise, of New Mexico, Norma, and her husband, Bill Burke of Clive, Iowa, Dennis, and his wife, Mary, of Polk City, Iowa, and Steven, and his wife, Sue, of Valdosta, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Virginia of Knoxville, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and many other extended family members.

A memorial service will be held 9 a.m. Friday, April 2, 2010 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial of cremains immediately following at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be given to Fleur Heights Care Center or Simpson United Methodist Church, both in Des Moines, Iowa.
