Service Details
Lucas “Luke” John Carper, 26, passed away on March 16, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 22, 2010 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Luke was born in Ames, Iowa to Rick and Laura Carper on July 15, 1983. He attended Valley High School and DMACC. Luke was employed in the construction industry and enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and camping. He also enjoyed music and spending time with his family and friends.
He will be greatly missed by his parents, Rick Carper and Laura Capaldo; sisters, Natalie (Lincoln) Russian, Erin Carper and Haley Carper; brothers, Ethan Carper, Marc Capaldo and Seth Capaldo; grandparents, Robert (Betty) Carper and Helen Schleier; niece, Arianna Stanton; and nephews, Isaiah Carper and Jackson Russian. Luke was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Schleier.

Its been 6 years this weeknd since I met Lucas. He is still in my thoughts and my heart daily whatever for, he made a huge impression on me and i am proud to say it. I will sit under a atum tree watching the leaves fall and time will stand still thinking of Lucas John Carper. Nature will look so vivid to show me what its like to view the world in love. Wrap my arms around you. hurts still

My thoughts and prayers are with Lukes family. He loved life so much and will be missed by so many people. I was shocked when i heard. I am truly sorry for your loss. I will never forget Lukes zest for life. He loved his family sooo much and talked about you guys alot. I will miss him so much!

Luke loved the outdoors and loved camping and fishing. He would do that all summer long if given the opportunity. Marc his younger brother and Luke have been my outdoor fishing and camping buddies in past and recent years. Recently Luke was telling me his version of the story of catching a Sting Ray and Shark when living in Washington State and how it scared Laura and the girls so much to have those fish flop out of the water onto the floating docks at a Sate Park near Bremmerton on the Puegot Sound. We used to go to the docks and catch crab, sand shark ,Red Snapper, and Flounder every weekend. He loved his fishing so much. When we lived in Castle Rock, Colorado I used to rush home in the summer before sundown and gather Luke up in the cab of my truck and head to Castle Canyon State Park to count Mule Deere. We always were able to count at least 10 sometimes many more every night. When I used to go water fowl hunting he would stand up nd spook the geese away because they were to pretty to shoot. I'll never forget the times as he was a young man of 6-8 and he would call me names just to get me going and run like the wind with me in hot pursuit laughing all the way and the girls all laughing which ended up making me laugh at myself also. I learned to be patient more with Luke than any child I was around and not to sweat the small stuff.
I will not say Luke was dealt a rough card because we all choose our pathways growing up whether you are in and outstanding environment or a not so outstanding environment some of us choose the pathway of least resistance because it is there. Luke is now entrusted with a "Clarence Role". Now those of you who are having trouble following, Clarence was chosen as George Biley's (IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE) movie who was appointed Guardianship over George Bailey to make sure he realized that he had much worth in this big bad world and was wanted and needed. Luke is now Marc and Seth Capaldo's Guardian Angel and he will need to see to it they do good with their lives so he can earn his wings. Yes Luke is angel 2nd class right now and as Naeem Abdullah wrote before me "you have not disappointed any of us Luke because we all knew what kind of heart you had inside, a good one. Now go out there and make us proud in how you look over and guide those who love you who are still here". Thank you Naeem, you nailed it....I will miss you Luke...

To Rick, Laura, Natalie, Erin, Haley, Marc, Seth and all family:
Please accept my deepest most heart-felt condolences and sympathy at the loss of your dear Luke. I met him in his first year or two and have had some link to him and you all, of course, ever since. May you all be of great comfort to one another and know that more people than you can count have been touched by the boy-turned-man: Luke Carper. May his life be celebrated, as he did touch so many.

Luke: You know I don't like this one bit having your service, visitation, and disposition on the day of my birthday. Well hey; I know Im supposed to leave this for your family but Im gonna do it different and talk directly to you.
I want you to know that sometimes the road got lonely for all of us. I want you to know you were never alone. When I look back I remember all the good times we had and I beleive that is what is to be remembered of you. If I knew one thing about you it was that you were never a coward. At times may have made the wrong decisions, but never a coward. I can't put all the blame on you for this one because I personally know the cards you been delt, and thats not an attack on anyone, but the truth lies in how we must stay strong in faith at the end of the day. So Luke I will not accept knowing that this was an easy way out. I have to look at this as you will be much more resourseful in the hands of God. Trust me my friend, your responsibilities now have not gotten any lighter. They actually they have just gotten harder. You are the missing piece to the puzzle to bring it all together. You are now an Angel for a lot of people who were in your inner circle who needed you here and now need you more than ever. You have two little brothers who need you the most and I look foward to seeing the work you do to transition them from boys to men in the best way you can. A Guardian Angel is the best thing in life to have and you've just become that. You haven't disapointed any of us Luke because we all knew what type of heart you had inside, a good one. Now go out there and make us proud in how you look over and guide those you love who are still here! We will miss you.
