Sarah Marie Amodeo Nicolino, 85, passed away on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2010 at Ramsey Village Care Center, where she had lived since 2006. Visitation will be held at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NW 52nd St., Tuesday, March 23, 2010 beginning at 9:30 a.m. with a Rosary at 10:15 a.m. The funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m. Sarah will be buried at Glendale Cemetery.

Sarah was born May 13, 1924 in Des Moines to James and Conchetta (Balistrieri) Amodeo. She graduated from North High School in 1942. Sarah’s first job was during World War II where she worked at the Des Moines Ordnance Plant making ammunition for the war. Later, she moved on to work at a hospital in admissions and records. Sarah continued working for nine years for an insurance company in the underwriting department. She met Cosimo Nicolino at a dance at the Tromar Ballroom. Sarah said it was love at first sight. She and Cosimo “Cosy” were married on August 14, 1955 until Cosy’s death 2001. Together they had one child, Charles. He was a very devoted son and visited her daily until his death in September 2009. Sarah’s niece, Rose Mary Pratt, helped her find Ramsey Village where the caregivers and residents became her family. She enjoyed music, dancing and BINGO. Sarah was a very devout Catholic and spiritual person.

Sarah is survived by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Howard Stalter, Joseph Costanzo, Ascension Vito, John and Phyllis Nicolino; nieces, Rose Mary Pratt and Connie Schaffer; and many other nieces and nephews of the Amodeo and Nicolino families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cosimo Nicolino; son, Charles Nicolino; parents; sisters, Mary Jane Stalter and Frances Amodeo Spidle; infant brother, Frankie Amodeo; infant sisters, Mary and Josephine Amodeo; brother, Ralph Amodeo; and nephew, Jay Stalter.
