Carmaleta Estes

Carmaleta went to be with her Lord on March 9, 2010. She was born on January 23, 1921 to Martha Thompson and Odie Oliver. She was united in marriage to Edward Estes on July 6, 1939. They had three children, Judith, Sandra and Larry. Carmaleta was preceded in death by her husband and daughter Sandra.

She is survived by her daughter, Judith; son, Larry; eight grandchildren, Deborah (Kenny) Darland, Jeff (Sandy) Fisher, Vicki (Jay Sparks) Monk-Watts, Troy Parsons, Todd Parsons, Tray (Shari) Parsons, Robert (Bridget) Estes, and Timothy (Peggy Buyers) Estes; nineteen great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren; sister, Cherie (Marvin) Morris and two nieces.

Carmaleta was a Diamond Classifier for Ardan’s for many years. She enjoyed sewing projects such as wedding dresses for her daughters and sister, formals, and dance costumes. She enjoyed cooking, baking fancy cakes and cookies, listening to music, and singing in the choir. She instructed a water exercise class for 13 years at the “Y”; was an avid reader and enjoyed working on her photo albums. Her most important thing in life was family. She attended all family functions and events until her death.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Van Meter United Methodist Church, 100 Hazel St., Van Meter, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 12 from 4 to 8 pm at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines.

Memorial contributions may be direct to Carmaleta’s church or to a no-kill animal shelter.
