Service Details

Leona Laurene Waychoff Peterson died of a heart attack at her home on Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the service and a private family interment will be held at a later date.
Mrs Peterson, along with her late husband Ward, owned and operated Peterson’s Texaco and Motel. She was active in her church, Miller United Methodist, where she was a member and past officer in the Esther Circle. Laurene was also a charter member of the Helping Hand Sewing Club, was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and a long time volunteer at Iowa Lutheran Hospital and the Not New Shop.
Laurene was preceded in death by her husband, Ward; daughter, Nancy Handley: son-in-laws, Robert Heston and Randall Handley; two brothers and one sister. She is survived by two daughters, Jean Heston of Derby, IA and Sally (Robert) Wilkerson of Urbandale; son, Robert (Lin) Peterson of Deer Park, TX; grandchildren, Steven (Rhonda), Sheryl, Sarlynn, Scott (Deb) Heston, Chris (Linda) and Rob Peterson, Don (Cheryl) McLeland, Corrin Smith, Regina (Rob) Hunn, Ron (Simona) Handley, Jamie (Lisa), Joel (Marcy) and Julie Wilkerson; 13 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; sisters, Thelma Zweifel of Dows, IA twin sister, Loine Reichardt of Urbandale and Bonnie Staehli of Windsor Heights; brother, Harlan (Barbara) Waychoff of Cedar Rapids, IA and many much loved nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Miller United Methodist Church.
