Idelles Johnson
February 21, 2010
Idelles Johnson, 63, went home to our Lord on February 21, 2010, after her battle with Alzheimer’s.
She was born on June 17, 1946 to Elmer and Clara Richardson of Slater. She graduated from Ballard-Huxley High School in 1964. She worked at the downtown Younkers Beauty Salon as a beautician until raising her family became priority. Her hobbies included cooking, baking, gardening, sewing and crafts, bowling, and participating in numerous church activities. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Gene Johnson. They have three children, Christina (Shawn) Hauger of Polk City, Derek (Adrianne) Johnson of Ankeny, and Kyle Johnson of Ankeny; and five grandchildren, Grant, Alex, Kaitlyn, Cole, and Lacie. She is also survived by one brother, Don Richardson of Urbandale. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A special thanks to: Dr. David Michael, New Horizon Adult Center, Altoona Nursing and Rehabilitation, and Hospice of Central Iowa.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 914 NW Ash, Ankeny, burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may visit with family from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines.

Dear Gene,
I am sorry I am so belated in sending to you our condolences. Our E-mail address is maryeliz46@msn.com. I am so sorry for such an accomplished and talented lady that she left you a "few years" ago. You are to be commended for your dedication to her as you honored your wedding vows made many years ago.
As her last few years did not represent who she really was, now those former years come into focus and it makes one feel so sad as they recall the better days of a loved one's life.
You have beautiful and kind children. I know you feel so blessed for the legacy that your wife has left behind in those children for you to enjoy.
I am sorry I was unable to attend the funeral services. After we left visitation Wed. night I became motion sick and couldn't even stay at church that evening. The next day I did not feel stable enough to take a long drive around town and perhaps experience the same malady and have to go back home and cause Dan to miss the service.
You and I are are 64 years old, born in '46, graduated in '64. Couldn't be better years for us. I told Red about Idelles' demise when they had just started their trip back home after spending six weeks in New Mexico and AZ. So they hurried things up with five hours' sleep at a rest stop to at least make it to your reception.

Dear Gene & family,
I am sorry for your loss. As I look through the pictures of our card club at New Year's eve, on 12/31/99, I see all the happy faces of our members having a New Year's eve party. Idelles was the one who put the books together for all of us. Her bright smile and personality will be sorely missed.

Dear Gene and Family,
We extend our sincere condolences on the loss of your wife and mother. The only time I remember meeting Idelles was at our high school reunions. It was either our 20th or 25th pot luck picnic, I cant remember for sure, but I do remember she brought fresh apple pies! They were really good! I was impressed. She seemed to be such a gentle spirit and a very nice lady. Your loss must be great.
We will keep you all in our prayers.
With Deepest Sympathy,
Nancy (Davenport) and Richard Jewett

Gene and Family --- I have known Idelles my whole life. We spent lots of time together as children in Slater --- played at her house nearly every day. We also shared mutual cousins, Linda & Lana Richardson, so our lives have always been intertwined. We went all through grade school and high school together - and always had fun. She was a wonderful, shy, friendly, pretty, genuine friend. I know you have been her blessing, Gene, all of your married life - and especially these last few years.
I will not be there for the service or visitation as I am out of town right now --- but my thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time.
Sincerely,
Marilee Daggett Dawson

Dear Family,
My brother, Ron, and his wife called to tell about Idelles passing. She was a
good friend while I was growing up in Slater. I have many good memories of her and the family. We had some fun trips when we all went fishing in Minnesota. I have many pleasant memories. Wishing you sympathy.

My sympathy goes out to all of you. Idelles was such a remarkable
woman and one of the sharpest card players I have ever known. I

Dear Johnson Family,
I was deeply to saddened to hear of your loss. I remember Idelles with huge fondness, after many years of playing bridge with her. Gene, her husband, will always have a special place in my heart because he truly saved my own husband's life, one year in a blizzard. Kyle was a friend of my daughter, and I remember him, too. Idelles was indeed a very special person- how I loved going to your beautiful home and hearing about her lovely family. I cannot begin to imagine the deepness of your loss and please know that our hearts go out to you.
Sincerely, Lisa Brumback
