Berta Bradford

Mrs. Berta “Little Baby” Bradford was born with an identical twin on April 5, 1939 to Tubie Warren and Annie Scott in Louisiana. She was at her residence in Des Moines on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 when her Master and Father whispered her name to come home.

Berta was self educated in a variety of areas. She enjoyed church, fishing and people, but her favorite pastime was shopping. She took the phrase “shop ’til you drop” to a whole new level.

Berta was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edmond Bradford, Sr.; daughter, Marie Scott; grandsons, Mark and Frederick Scott; her mother and father; and her three brothers, Linzy Jefferson, Cleon Jefferson and Jessie Warren.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her significant other, Johnny Smith; three sons, Alvin (Veronica) Jefferson, Sr. of Houston, Texas, Junior Ray (Berniece) Bradford of Augusta, Georgia and Donnie Bradford of Des Moines; four daughters, Deborah Mitchell of Des Moines, Barbara Scott of Dubuque, Iowa, Shirley Bradford and Bernessa (Roosevelt) Burse, both of Des Moines; four sisters, Bertha “Big Baby” Brown of Des Moines, Christine Radford of Rialto, California, Jimmie Lane of Des Moines and Nina Warren of Mississippi; two brothers, Joseph Warren and Thomas Marsh, both of Mansfield, Louisianna; aunt, Norvice Landford of Oakland, California; uncle, Artelious Warren of Oakland, California; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended relatives, friends and acquaintances.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
