Skylar Robert Rathbun, 37, passed away unexpectedly on January 15, 2010. Skylar, a.k.a. the “Dog Whisperer of Des Moines,” who owned and operated “i2i” dog training and “Camp Lucky Bones," was deeply compassionate about his mission to save animals. Skylar was a handsome and charming young man who was loved by all who knew him. He was vastly talented and enjoyed entertaining others with his magic tricks, break-dance moves and moon walking. He played guitar, wrote music and poetry, was a Jedi-ninja, and had his own brand of comic relief. He was a true Renaissance man. To those closest to him he was a son, brother, and proud father. His charismatic personality graced everyone who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.
Skylar is survived by his parents, Jill Twiss and Duane Twiss, his son Wolfe Patrick Rathbun, former wife Tania Kac, sisters, Hope Twiss and Shayni Miller, niece Kamryn Miller and his furry friends, Pixie and Se7en. He is preceded in death by his Grandmother Evelynn Engleman, Grandfather Verl Weber, and niece Sara Joy Miller.
The family requests donations for memorial arrangements be sent in lieu of flowers, and can be made directly to family via Hamilton’s Funeral Home. Memorial Services will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home. Family viewing will be 4-6 PM Wednesday, January 20, 2010.

I met Skylar back probably in early 2000's when I was walking my dog in North Oakland. We talked about dogs and kindness and he gave me his Camp Lucky Bones biz card, which I found just the other day. I remembered him as being a very kind individual whoI was happy to run into that day. Now that I am a dog trainer, I thought it would be nice to try and get in touch with him. I was very sorry to find this notice at Hamilton's Funeral Home. I just thought that anyone who read this might like to know that there was one more life touched by Skylar and I wish I had the chance to reconnect with him.

So sad to hear :) Skylar was a Good friend of mine at a hard time for me ..We spent time together at St.Marys home ..he is greatly missed :(

I would like to offer my deepest sympathy to the family of Skylar, and especially Shayni who I know personally. I never met Skylar, but only heard stories about him from Shayni years ago. If you read this Shayni, I know it is because your heart is broken and you feel closer to Skylar when you read the things people say about him. I know and understand your sadness because I experienced a loss myself, and feel the weight of my grief as if it is a presence with substance and mass surrounding me. No words can express the loss you have experienced and I am sorry that somebody so dear to you has passed before their time. People have told me tham time heals everything and that grief fades. They were wrong. I found a quote after my loss that I had made into a bronze plaque for the grave of my soulmate. "Ever has it been that love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation". My prayers are with you and your family.
