Dean Cox

Dean R. Cox, 88, died February 6, 2010 at Taylor House Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 15, 2010 at Staves Memorial United Methodist Church, 2747 E. Madison Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50317.

Dean was born in Oskaloosa on July 29, 1921, to Versa and Frank Cox. He was a 1938 graduate of East High School in Des Moines. He pursued further education while serving in the U.S. Army and at Drake University.

Dean dearly loved his family. He was married to Ann for 62 years at the time of her death. He is survived by five children: Douglas Cox, Edward (Susan) Cox, Rebecca Cox, John Cox, and Sheila (Tom) Staubus. Beloved grandchildren are Ira (Stephanie) Carlson, Nathan (Lindsey) Cox, Kayli Staubus, Maria Staubus, Amanda Cox, and great-grandchildren, Payton and Sydney Carlson. He also was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Dale, Kenneth, and Verne.

Dean was a long-time member of Staves Church. He was an accountant/office manager at Central Wholesale - United Food Markets, Feilen Meat, and J.C. White Company. He assisted many clients with tax preparations. He was a past member of the Polk-Story Joint County School Board, Heartland AEA, and Institute of Management Accountants.

His body has been donated to Des Moines University.
