Ruby Weddell

Ruby Helen Weddell passed away February 4th 2010. She was the daughter of Chester and Lavona Crawley, born January 21, 1946, in Guthrie Center. She grew up on a farm outside of Guthrie Center with her parents and ten other brothers and sisters. In 1966 Ruby moved to Des Moines and worked as a secretary. She met Jim Weddell, and they fell head over heels in love. They eloped and were married in Boulder, Colorado, on January 1, 1967. She lived a full and beautiful life with her husband raising their two daughters and always having family and friends around them. She and Jim were partners in everything and were inseparable. One never did anything without the other.

She is survived by her beloved husband James Weddell and her daughters Michele (Donald) Chase and Lisa (Scott) Birkel. Grandchildren: Curtis, Felicia, Kyle, Danielle, Chelsea, Maria, Carina. A great-grandchild is on the way. Siblings: Clarence (Connie), Bobby (Jan), Margaret, Ruth, Linda (Rex), Debbie (Alan), Patsey (Howie). Brother-in-laws: Michael (Patsy), Ronald, Mark (Dena), Raymond (Michele), Robert (Rhonda). She is also survived by multitudes of nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Jackie, Peggy, Danny Crawley.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, February 8, 2010 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, February 7, 2010 at the funeral home.
