Service Details

Ms. Beverly Kay (Doyal) Johnson was born on November 20, 1946 to Henry Doyal, Sr. and Martha (Gunn) Loggins in Des Moines. She passed away February 3, 2010.

She was educated in the Des Moines Public School District. Following high school, Beverly began her dedicated and committed life to servicing her community by becoming a Registered Nurse at Methodist Hospital. After several years at the hospital, Beverly shifted to the childcare industry where she was originally hired as the nurse’s assistant at Tiny Tots Childcare, known today as the Evelyn Davis Early Learning Academy, childcare center for low income working families. Through her years of dedication and service there, she worked her way up to becoming the assistant director/bookkeeper for the center and working side-by-side with its founder Evelyn Davis. As the center began to expand, Beverly played a leading role in developing the center’s extended services such as the Boy Scouts program and Summer Foods program.

After childcare, Beverly focused her attention and devoted her efforts working as a community activist/bookkeeper and Boy Scouts Leader for the Salvation Army. Once more, working her way up to becoming a director for the organization.

Unsurprisingly, her passion and advocacy for community service did not stop there. Beverly enjoyed volunteering her time and services to the Young Women’s Resource Center, Planned Parenthood Program of Greater Des Moines and providing food and shelter for the needy.

Beverly is survived by her sons, Ronald L. Diggs II, Samuel Johnson II, Steven E. Johnson, Brian K. Johnson and Jay D. Hall; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Doyal, Jr. and Richard Doyal; sister, Gloria Doyal; step-brother, Tony Loggins; cousins, other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2010 at the Salvation Army, 1326 6th Avenue.
