Ray Schlicher
January 31, 2010
Ray Schlicher, 51, passed away January 31, 2010 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital from sudden heart failure.
Ray was born March 28, 1958 in Fort Madison, IA to Raymond and Kay Schlicher. He was a former mayor for the city of Carlisle. Ray was a people person who could find humor in every situation and was a great story teller. His children were his life, he especially loved his Daddy and Daughter breakfasts on Sunday mornings with his daughter, Jenna. Ray enjoyed listening to music and being outdoors, especially by his pool. He was an avid Hawkeye football fan and had a passion for playing baseball. He was a wonderful neighbor and a great friend to all, and will be remembered for his generosity and contagious smile.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Julie; children, Justin (Michelle), Kyle (Holly), Taylor and Jenna; mother, Kay (Wes) Troutman of Colorado; and his siblings, Krista Zelinksy, Camala Winters, and Tony (Jill) Spadafora. He will be missed by his loving dog, Ruby; and cats, Mookoo, Stubby, Jake, Lucy, and Catie.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond J. Schlicher; and brother, Jeff Schlicher.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Friday, February 5, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Seton Parish, 2566 Scotch Ridge Road, in Carlisle followed by burial at the Carlisle Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the church.

Kim and I are so sorry to hear of your loss. Ray was a wonderful person who always thought of others before himself. As a car dealer in Carroll, I always enjoyed visiting with Ray when he came by first as a rep for IADA and then for R&R. We also enjoyed spending time in Galena, IL during an IADA event several years ago. I last saw Ray a few months ago at Panchero's in West Des Moines. Not surprisingly, when we visited he was more interested in hearing about me than talking about himself. He asked me how the dealership was doing, how my family was doing, etc. Ray was truly interested in hearing about others and their family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We will miss him very much.

We got to know Ray when he started calling on us for Reynolds and Reynolds and we are so glad that we did. He was always such a joy to visit with. He was also so upbeat and happy and didn't know a stranger. We so looked forward to his visits. He was so happy and proud of his family and couldn't wait to share their accomplishments with others. He was always there for us no matter what we needed, and sometimes that was alot! He will truely be missed! The office girls at Macke Motors in Lake City IA

Kyle and Justin sorry for your loss. We truly enjoyed visiting with your father during your athletic events. If anyone had a passion for his children it was your father, he spoke highly of both of you and was proud of your accomplishments.

Julie and Family, so very sorry to hear of Ray's passing. Want you to know that I ALWAYS enjoyed visiting with Ray whether he stopped to see us or when I visited IADA when he worked there. Ray was that 'special kinda guy' who had the knack for making you smile....no matter what.....those kind are special! I pray for your strength during this time. Please allow friends and relatives to help with whatever they can do. I'm sure this will be tough and I'm sure that you will see sunshine again....hang in there and be strong and help each other. Please don't hesitate to stop in Grinnell whenever you go buy. Take care and God Bless, Jeff & Gina Finch and family and Wes and Marilyn Finch.

We are just numb over the tragic news of Rays passing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Julie, Jenna, Taylor and the rest of their family.
I had the fortunate honor of being friends with Ray for over 42 years. We shared many laughs as well as tears along the way. He always had such a positve
outlook on life and could light up a room with his humor and wit.
Our lives were enriched beyond expression for having had Ray in our lives and we are truly saddened that his life has been cut short.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Ray's family. I played baseball in the "old guys" league with Ray and he made every day fun (even on a scorching 100 degree Sunday). Whenever I ran into Ray, after our playing days were over, he was always the most positive, upbeat, happiest person I knew and so proud of his family. Hearing of his death was a shock to me and puts a lot of things in perspective. The world has lost a wonderful person. God Bless you Ray for the joy you brought to all who knew you.

It is so hard to understand why god picks the good ones and leaves the one that just don't have a clue. Ray was not only my rep for work but I considered him a good friend. There was never a time he couldn't come up with a solution to my problem. I will miss his quick witty responses to what I thought was a dumb question. He was always so upbeat and I don't ever remember a time he didn't ask about my family. He was one of a kind. I appreciate all he did for me.
I know this is a very difficult time for all of you. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time.
Ray you will be missed by all!! You touched people's lifes in ways that not many people can. You lived everyday to the fullest and you were one in a million!! "Take care you!"
Katie.

I was sitting there thinking of the Schlicher family and asking myself why such terrible things happen to the very best people. Your family is in my prayers.

Ray was a light in an extremely dark part of our lives. He was someone that made everything seem better just by being in the room. He was our friend and we loved him dearly. Not only are we heartbroken but our children are as well.
He was one of the best!!! There just aren't enough words to say how much we loved, respected and adored him! If the measure of a man is how his children have turned out than your dad was off the charts. We were blessed to call him a friend. But you were the luckiest...you call him dad!
God Bless you Julie, Taylor, Jenna, Kyle and Justin.
I can honestly say our lives are better and we are better people because we knew Ray.
We Love You!
Bob, Wendy, Bobby, Tommy, Joey and Danny!
