Vera Gamble

Vera Ida Gamble, 100, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Indianola. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Saturday at the Carlisle United Methodist Church, 405 School Street. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service.

Vera was born August 3, 1909 in Lorimor, Iowa to Alice and Harve Mapes. She married Russell Gamble on January 14, 1930.

Vera is survived by her children, Duane "Doc" Gamble, Beverly Claman (Bob), Shirley Steel and Jerry Gamble (Joyce); 3 step-children, Kelly Gamble, Claire Gamble and Billy Gamble; 10 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 20 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Gamble, daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Gamble, stepdaughters-in-law, Mildred and Betsy Gamble, step-son, Jack Gamble, great granddaughter, Sally Sanders, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

She was a member of the Carlisle United Methodist Church and cooked for the Carlisle Chamber of Commerce for over 34 years.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Carlisle United Methodist Church or the Carlisle Alumni Endowment Fund.
